The 2024 Essen Indoor City Championship was not a success story for the second team of Rot-Weiss Essen. Quite the opposite. They are now considering pulling out of the tournament altogether.
Günther Oberholz, co-organizer of the Essen Indoor City Championship and head of marketing at ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen, was very pleased that Rot-Weiss Essen sent a team into the race again after many years of abstinence – Forecasting reported. RWE II competed in the Essen Budenzauber.

Because the RWE reserve team, the loss-free district league B table leader, did not have a good experience under the hall roof in Essen-Stoppenberg. After surviving the qualification, the Lorenz team was eliminated in the intermediate round.
Two RWE II players, Dominik Milaszewski (torn muscle) and Mirco Selle (broken ankle), were seriously injured. Milaszewski (31 goals), along with Emre Kilic (40), was the top scorer. “It wasn’t a good tournament for us. It started with our coach Stefan Lorenz having to motivate players to take part. That’s the goal when you take part in a tournament. And, of course, the injuries to Dominik and Mirco were the inglorious encore. The hall was of no added value for us in terms of preparation,” Frank Kurth lists the negative hall appearances in 2024.
The RWE II project manager makes no secret of the fact that the 2025 Essen Indoor Championship will probably take place without red-white participation. “As far as I’m concerned, we won’t participate anymore. But we’ll have to discuss that again in a larger group,” the RWE goalkeeper legend emphasized to
