In an intense top game between Dynamo Dresden and Rot-Weiss Essen, the points were shared (2:2). A lucky point for Essen, where goalkeeper Golz excelled.
After Jahn Regensburg (1st) and SSV Ulm (3rd), Rot-Weiss Essen made the top match weeks perfect on the 27th matchday of the 3rd division. After all, Dynamo Dresden, second in the table, were waiting for Essen. After an intense game in front of over 30,000 spectators in the Rudolf-Harbig Stadium, the points were shared – and the guests could thank their goalkeeper for that.
First things first: RWE made three changes to the team that played in the contract extension of head coach Christoph Dabrowski. Lucas Brumme and Mustafa Kourouma came on for Eric Voufack (torn syndesmosis ligament) and José-Enrique Ríos Alonso (suspended). Leonardo Vonic was replaced by Ron Berlinski in the Essen forward line.
And in the Saxon state capital, RWE got off to a dream start. Marvin Obuz played a great through ball to Harenbrock, who scored with his left foot from a tight angle (6′). But in the turbulent opening phase, the lead was not to last long, partly because Essen gave away a gift: Jakob Golz let in an actually harmless shot from Tom Zimmerschied in the eleventh minute – a clear goalkeeping error! But the unlucky goalkeeper would redeem himself.
Because Dynamo continued to push forward, while Essen had major problems with Dresden’s offensive. Goalkeeper Golz made several brilliant saves, for example against Dennis Borkowski (18′ and 28′), and kept Red-White in the game after his mistake.
The fact that not much was working in the Essen defense showed that the attack was all the more efficient: a free kick from Thomas Eisfeld after a good half-hour grew longer and longer and found its way into the far corner (34). Out of nowhere, RWE was more than happy to be ahead again.
And once again, thanks go to goalkeeper Golz, who excelled in defense and first saved Zimmerschied (37) and then Borkowski for the third time (42). RWE went into the break leading 2-1.
Dresden quickly equalizes
Both teams came out unchanged and the RWE defense remained shaky. This time, however, Dresden was able to take immediate advantage of this, with Zimmerschied scoring his second goal (47th minute) after a mistake by Isaiah Young. This time, Golz was also powerless, and he had to save several times after the equalizer.
It remained a one-goal game, until the next goal was scored in the 68th minute, to the jubilation of the crowd in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium. Zimmerschied scored to make it 3-2, but referee Lukas Benen correctly ruled that he was offside, putting an end to the celebrations.
The final phase of the game began, with both coaches making their first substitutions. With ten minutes remaining, RWE had the next chance out of nowhere. Kevin Broll’s invitation was not taken up by Sascha Voelcke, who shot just wide of the post (79′).
In injury time, there was another moment of shock for RWE: after a Dresden corner, the crossbar saved for the Essen team, who were able to clear the ball. However, Felix Götze was hit badly in the head and had to be transported away after treatment for the bleeding head. After that, it was over.
So it remained with the flattering point for the Dabrowski team, who will host SpVgg Unterhaching at the Hafenstraße next Saturday (March 2nd, 4:30 p.m.).
