No fracture for Wittek – that’s how Zeidler saw the Cologne test

VfL Bochum are still waiting for a sense of achievement. After a run without Bundesliga wins, they also suffered a defeat against Cologne. That’s how the coach saw the 90 minutes.

Bundesliga club VfL Bochum lost the test against second division club 1. FC Cologne 2:3. Moritz Kwarteng scored the 1:1 and Moritz Broschinski the 2:1 shortly after half-time. The 2:3 fell with the last action – here, keeper Timo Horn, who had previously made some brilliant saves, did not look happy.

After the game, Horn, who played for Cologne for many years, summed up: “It’s annoying. We played well and could have scored more goals. Everyone got a chance to show what they could do, so despite the defeat, it was a good test that gives us hope for the coming weeks. The ball came in well at 2:3, it was hard to get out. Then I tried to get the ball in the scrum with my hand.”

Which didn’t work, so there was no sense of achievement to celebrate, not even a partial one. VfL captain Anthony Losilla summed it up: “Unfortunately, it was another game that we didn’t win. A win would have done us good. But there were a few good things too.”

What was bad: After nine minutes, Maximilian Wittek had to leave the field injured after the 0-1. There was a suspicion of a fracture of the toe. Fortunately, this was not confirmed.

Which would not taste good for VfL coach Peter Zeidler. About the 90 minutes against FC, he said: “I think 60 minutes it was a test game, after that it was more of a friendly. The last 30 minutes, many young players got the opportunity to show themselves, so it was no longer a real test. I didn’t like that. We wanted to win, but we shouldn’t get too hung up on the 2-3 either.”

His team was good for a long time in the game, there were two aluminum hits, where the Bochumers had bad luck. After a lot of changes, the 2:3 fell in injury time. Zeidler: “I also saw a few interesting things, a lot of guys played where they hadn’t been used before.” cb / gp
