Champions League leaders BVB travel to title defenders Real Madrid. Nobody wants to talk about revenge for the final defeat at Wembley.
Borussia Dortmund can hope for the return of recently injured professionals before the Champions League game at Real Madrid. According to coach Nuri Sahin, veterans Pascal Groß and Niklas Süle are on the road to recovery.
And even starting goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who was absent from the final training session due to an upset stomach, signaled his readiness for the new edition of the Champions League final on Tuesday (9:00 p.m. / Amazon Prime) upon arrival in the Spanish capital.
On the other hand, Sahin has to do without the attackers Karim Adeyemi, Julien Duranville and Giovanni Reyna, as well as right-back Yan Couto.
BVB will travel to the title-holders, who won the final at Wembley Stadium 2-0 in early June, as the competition’s leading team after two comfortable wins in Bruges (3-0) and against Celtic Glasgow (7-1). “We want to be brave and we have every reason to be. After all, we got off to a good start in the competition,” said Sahin.
Revenge for the final not an issue
The Spanish team are under pressure after their surprising 0-1 loss in Lille. On the first match day, they managed a lucky 3-1 win against VfB Stuttgart.
Sahin did not want to talk about revenge for the final at Wembley. “If it were for a trophy, you could perhaps speak of revenge. But it’s a group game, not a final,” said the coach of the Bundesliga club.
