Record extended: Verstappen takes 17th victory of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen has taken his 17th victory of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix. He now needs just one more success to overtake Vettel in the all-time victory table.

At the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo, Max Verstappen extended his winning record to 17 victories this season.

52nd career victory for Verstappen
In a race that was dramatic at the start, Verstappen ultimately secured first place for the 52nd time in his career in commanding style. “We were good on all tires. It was a very strong race,” said Verstappen, commenting on the victory.

Lando Norris, who suffers from the Red Bull driver’s dominance, came in second: “It seems that Max has an answer for everything, which is a shame,” said Norris.

The last place on the podium was secured by veteran Fernando Alonso after a thrilling final duel with Sergio Pérez. “When he overtook me with two laps to go, I thought: that’s it for the podium,” Alonso said. However, he managed to counterattack in his Aston Martin.

Verstappen is about to break Vettel’s record
At the next race in Las Vegas, he could equal Vettel’s record of 53 wins. Should he then also win the season finale in Abu Dhabi, he would stand alone in third place in the all-time victory table. Only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have won more Formula 1 races, with 91 and 103 Grand Prix victories respectively.
