First Winter Signing – Midfielder from Second Division Club Signs

MSV Duisburg has now also announced its first winter signing. The club has brought in reinforcements for the midfield from the Second Division.

Just in time for the team’s departure to training camp in Belek (Turkey), Aljaz Casar is joining MSV Duisburg. On Friday afternoon, December 2, the Zebras presented their new central midfielder. Forecasting had already exclusively announced the transfer.

“We’ve had Aljaž on our radar for a very long time, so it’s all the more gratifying that the opportunity has now arisen to convince him to join us. He is a very hard-working and active player; his game is characterized by courage and commitment—exactly the qualities that will greatly enrich our midfield,” said Chris Schmoldt, sporting director of MSV Duisburg.

Casar has made twelve appearances in the current second-division season—though mostly as a substitute. He has started three matches and come off the bench nine times. During Dresden’s promotion season, the 2024/25 campaign, he was still a regular starter as both a center back and a central midfielder.

“I’m really looking forward to this challenge. I know the stadium from personal experience and know what great fans the club has. We have a really good team here, and with this mix on the field and in the stands, we’ll be able to achieve a lot together,” he said about his new role.

Points Table

So now Casar, who can play in central defense, defensive midfield, and central midfield, is joining the team. After stints in his home country of Slovenia and with SCR Altach in Austria, Casar made the move to Germany in the summer of 2021—more specifically, to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II in the Regionalliga Südwest.

After just one year, he moved on to Halleschen FC in the 3. Liga. Then, just two years later, he joined Dynamo Dresden. In total, Casar has already played 97 games in the 3. Liga, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

MSV coach Dietmar Hirsch is looking forward to a physically strong new addition. “With Aljaž, we’re getting a physically very strong midfielder who’s good in one-on-one situations but also someone who demands the ball. As a person, he’s open and respectful—this combination will give our game even more stability.”
