“It makes you think” – this is how Letsch sums up his debut

VfL Bochum lost 0:4 on coach Thomas Letsch’s debut. RB Leipzig was simply too big for VfL on this day. That was also the coach’s opinion.

A debacle at the start: That could also be the headline after Thomas Letsch’s first game as coach of VfL Bochum. The team from the Ruhr area was simply without a chance in a 4-0 defeat at RB Leipzig. Coach Letsch, who had of course imagined his debut to be completely different, took a similar view.

“First of all, it’s clear that the disappointment is written all over your face. We are all disappointed, we were inferior in all respects. That makes you think,” summed up the football coach, who has had a week of training as VfL coach.

It’s not about talking about the immense quality of RB, it’s about us managing to put a compact team performance on the pitch over 90 minutes.

“The first week was a good training week. But training is one thing and games are another. We have to use the next week to work on different things. So that we present ourselves differently in the next game,” the 54-year-old stressed.

Letsch wants to see a strong-fighting, passionate VfL, which also sets pinpricks in the offensive at the right moments. But there was nothing of that to be seen at RB in Saxony. A lot of work awaits the VfL pros in the next few days. “We lost a game here and now we have to analyse that. It’s not about talking about RB’s immense quality, it’s about us managing to put a compact team performance on the pitch over 90 minutes.” wozi with gp
