Ukraine could co-host 2030

Ukraine may be considered to co-host the 2030 World Cup. But there is plenty of competition.

Ukraine can apparently hope for the role of co-host of the 2030 World Cup. According to the British broadcaster SkySports, the war-torn country is to be included in the joint bid of Spain and Portugal. Accordingly, the matches of one group could take place in Ukraine. The country co-hosted the 2012 European Championship finals with Poland.

To be awarded in 2024

Besides Spain, Portugal and possibly Ukraine, however, there are other contenders to host the World Cup in eight years’ time. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece want to bid together. Uruguay, too, would like to bring the tournament back to South America 100 years after the first World Cup in 1930 in the country of the two-time world champions, together with Argentina, Chile and Paraguay.

The world governing body FIFA wants to award the World Cup at its 74th Congress in 2024. After the final round in Qatar (20 November to 18 December), the 2026 tournament will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Then, for the first time, 48 teams will take part in the World Cup.
