SF Niederwenigern are the defending champions of the Essen Indoor City Championship. All information about the date and prizes for 2025.
When the Essen Indoor City Championship kicks off on January 4, Hattingen-based Oberliga club SF Niederwenigern, which belongs to the Essen soccer district, will enter the competition as defending champions. Coach Marcel Kraushaar’s team won the title in both Hattingen and Essen in the last indoor season.
This year, the Sportfreunde will once again be seeded alongside the other two Oberliga teams, SpVg Schonnebeck and ETB SW Essen. The same applies to the six Landesliga teams DJK Adler Union Frintrop, SG Essen-Schönebeck, FC Kray, FC Blau-Gelb Überruhr, SpVgg Steele, and ESC Rellinghausen. All nine teams will therefore start the tournament later, once the intermediate round begins.
The intermediate round is definitely set to take place again in the Halle am Hallo. It is currently likely that the tournament, which starts on January 4 with the preliminary round, will kick off on the opening day in the Halle Bergeborbeck. From January 5, the action will then continue in the Halle am Hallo. A total of 57 clubs are taking part in the Essen Indoor City Championship.
Rot-Weiss Essen will not be participating at all, not even with their second team from Kreisliga A, as confirmed by Frank Kurth, team manager of RWE II, to the WAZ newspaper, where he also spoke about the reasons for the cancellation.
The draw and the exact times will be determined soon, as co-organizer Günther Oberholz told this editorial team upon request. The admission prices are already clear: Adults (including pensioners) pay €5, women, severely disabled persons, and young people aged 16 and over pay €3. Referees (with valid ID) and young people under the age of 16 are admitted free of charge.
The cost of beer and sausages is still to be confirmed and will be announced later.
