In the Oberliga Westfalen, all eyes will be on the Bochum derby this weekend. VfL Bochum’s U21 team will face Wattenscheid for the first time since 2015.
The last derby between VfL Bochum’s U21 team, which had been withdrawn from competition in the meantime, and SG Wattenscheid 09 took place in 2015.
On Saturday (November 23, 1 p.m.), the derby will finally take place again. And the teams can look forward to a big crowd at the Ruhrstadion. Well over 4,000 tickets have already been sold, 600 of them in Wattenscheid, where advance sales have been stopped. However, there will be a box office, which will open at 11:30 a.m.
For both sides, this is not just any ordinary match in the Oberliga Westfalen. The active SGW fan scene is calling for a joint trip to the neighboring district and has already rallied behind its team after the recent 1-1 draw against 1. FC Gievenbeck: “The most important game of the season is coming up. We have to give two hundred percent. In the stands and on the pitch. We want the derby win!” said the 09 chant leader.
The situation is clear. VfL is top of the table and unbeaten since the first matchday. SGW has won only one of its last six games and is therefore going into the match as the underdog.
But a derby is rarely a normal game – not even for the fans. The Wattenscheid fans are planning a joint trip to the Ruhrstadion, including a fan march. The meeting point is at Wattenscheid train station at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The train will then leave for Bochum main station at around 10:30 a.m. From there, the fan march to the stadium will begin, accompanied by the police.
Forecasting will of course be there live and will be providing a live ticker for the match. Anyone who wants to watch the 90 minutes via livestream can do so.
