No Schlotterbeck reunion on the pitch, FCA faces further setback

VfL Bochum will face FC Augsburg in the upcoming Bundesliga matchday. The opponent has concerns in defense.

In the upcoming Bundesliga matchday, VfL Bochum will make another attempt to secure its first win of the season, the third under coach Dieter Hecking.

The fact that they are facing FC Augsburg (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) can almost be considered a good omen for the Revierclub. Bochum have performed well against FCA in the recent past. Since their promotion, they have lost only one of six games and have remained unbeaten in their last two visits to Augsburg (2-2, 1-0).

Left-back Dimitrios Giannoulis suffered a minor muscle injury in his adductor against Bayern. He will be unable to train for the time being, FCA announced on Monday, without giving a prognosis for Saturday’s game. The Greek has started every competitive game so far and is the Fuggerstadt club’s ever-present.

If Giannoulis is also out alongside Schlotterbeck, this will increase Augsburg’s defensive worries. After VfL (32) and Kiel (28), Thorup’s team has conceded the most goals (23). This could be an opportunity for VfL, whose offense looked harmless in their 0-2 loss to VfB Stuttgart.

Striker Philipp Hofmann explained after the game that the focus in the last two games had been on a compact defense. “Now we’re facing opponents against whom we’ll have more possession. We’ll have to come up with something to get our first win. If we continue to work like this in training during the week, we’ll soon be rewarded.”
