Apology to the referee – Hirsch on the first defeat

For the first time since January 31, MSV Duisburg has lost a league game again. These were the reasons for the defeat at TSV 1860 Munich.

It has been almost nine months since MSV Duisburg lost the home derby against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen 0-2 in front of their own fans in the Regionalliga. On Sunday evening at TSV 1860, the promoted team suffered its first defeat in the 3rd division. The league leaders lost 3-1 to Markus Kauczinski’s team, who celebrated a dream debut at the Grünwalder Stadium. Joshua Bitters’ quick equalizer was not enough for Meiderich under the floodlights, with a brace from Sigurd Haugen and captain Thore Jacobsen sealing the deal late on. “Soccer is a results-oriented sport. I’m not entirely sure if it’s fair in terms of performance,“ were Dietmar Hirsch’s first words in his analysis on ”MagentaSport.“

It took the visitors a good 25 minutes to get into the game. The coach was less satisfied with the rest of the defense this weekend than he had been recently. ”After falling behind, you saw the character of my team. We shook ourselves up and realized that Sechzig wasn’t brimming with confidence.”

I thought the 1-3 was offside. Looking at the pictures, that wasn’t the case. My reaction wasn’t right and I was rightly given a yellow card.

The Zebras came out of the dressing room with their chests puffed out, and Hirsch’s team controlled the game until the two late goals. “We were too cautious and couldn’t find a way through their deep block. Then you can’t afford to make mistakes and maybe you have to settle for the point,” said Hirsch.

The 53-year-old spoke of a “feeling of an own goal” when Tobias Fleckstein’s involuntary assist led to the 1-2, and in the end he also had to apologize to referee Martin Wilke. “I thought the 1-3 would have been offside. According to the pictures, that was not the case. The reaction was not right and I was rightly given a yellow card.”

His counterpart was in a much better mood after his successful debut. Kauczinski: “It looked like it was going to be a draw for a long time. But we made the most of our chances with a lot of fight and passion. I didn’t expect everything to work out. That takes time when you know where we’re coming from. The lads did an outstanding job.”
