On Tuesday evening, Borussia Dortmund will play away at FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. Another victory would be hugely important for BVB coach Niko Kovac and his team.
Borussia Dortmund will be playing away at FC Copenhagen on Tuesday evening (October 21, 9 p.m.) on matchday 3 of the Champions League. BVB coach Niko Kovac and his team are aiming for their second victory in the premier class.
Although there have been no further injuries to the Dortmund squad following the grueling 2-1 defeat to FC Bayern on the last Bundesliga matchday, Kovac kept his options open at the press conference ahead of the game in Copenhagen, suggesting that he might rotate some positions.
With regard to the next league game against 1. FC Köln and the following weeks, the coach is also keeping an eye on his players’ workload and emphasized that he is convinced of their quality, regardless of who ultimately takes to the pitch.
“Six of the next seven games will be away games. That means we will not only be playing a lot, but also traveling a lot, and there will be a certain loss of substance,” explained Kovac. “We will certainly rotate, but I have yet to decide whether that will be the case against Copenhagen. However, that will certainly be the case in the upcoming games, so we will give everyone the chance to get their minutes. Also because we are convinced that we have good players.”
It will be very important for us to score points because we want to see how far we can get to the top.

Unlike BVB, FC Copenhagen are still waiting for their first win in the Champions League. After a 2-2 draw in their first game against Bayer Leverkusen, they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Qarabag Agdam from Azerbaijan. Although Dortmund are clear favorites going into the upcoming game, Kovac warned against underestimating their opponents from Denmark.
“It’s about continuing to score points against a very serious opponent with great support. After that, the next difficult away game in the Champions League against Manchester City is coming up. It will be very important for us to score points because we want to make sure we get as far up the table as possible,” emphasized the BVB coach.
Furthermore, Dortmund will be reunited with a former player on Tuesday evening. Youssoufa Moukoko, a former BVB prodigy and the youngest Bundesliga professional of all time, is in the Danish squad.
From Dortmund’s point of view, they can only hope that the 20-year-old striker does not rediscover his old form against his former club of all teams.
