“Giving something back to the fans” against Viktoria – Striker on trial

Alemannia Aachen welcomes Viktoria Cologne for its last home game of 2025 (Saturday, December 13, 2 p.m.). A striker is currently on trial.

Alemannia Aachen is set to play its last home game of the year. On Saturday, December 13, the Black and Yellows will host Viktoria Cologne at 2 p.m. The Höhenbergers are three points ahead of Aachen in the table.

“We definitely want to win the last home game of the year and give something back to the fans. That’s exactly how we’re approaching the days leading up to the game,” emphasizes Mersad Selimbegovic, who has recorded one win and one draw as Alemannia coach to date. On the other hand, there have been two defeats.

The Aachen team showed impressive resilience at Hansa Rostock. Alemannia played with one man down for almost 90 minutes and still delivered a strong performance. Selimbegovic was visibly proud, but also made it clear to his players that this attitude must be the basis for their performance. “Our fans want to see us fight and give our all. I feel that something can be achieved here and that, together with the fans, we will become more successful from game to game.”

Alemannia’s upcoming opponent is in 12th place in the table, above Alemannia. However, Viktoria has suffered defeats in each of its last three games. Selimbegovic warns against underestimating the opponent: “The work that is being done at Viktoria Cologne is often underestimated. I think they are doing an outstanding job. They have very clear processes, are difficult to play against and very calm on the ball. They also have good players in all positions. It will be a very difficult task for us.”

He continues: “After the game, we won’t be talking about the fact that we had almost 80 percent possession. For us, it’s about fighting passionately and being prepared to suffer. We can’t be passive and let ourselves be pushed back, just waiting for one cross after another. We want to tackle this together with our fans so that we’re all happy in the end.”

Lukas Scepanik has been training a little more cautiously at Alemannia this week. However, this is only a precautionary measure, as he was recently injured. He will be available for the game at the weekend, as will Gianluca Gaudino. On the other hand, the participation of Marius Wegmann, who had to be substituted due to injury in Rostock, is questionable. However, it is not out of the question that the center back will play. There is also positive news about Matti Wagner, who was able to return to team training. Fabio Torsiello and Lamar Yarborugh are still training separately. Jeremias Lorch is also largely pain-free again, but caution is still advised with the versatile defensive player.

Around 21,000 fans are expected at the Tivoli on Saturday, including 250 to 300 from Cologne. Alemannia has played 14 games against Viktoria Cologne, which was founded in 2010. On Saturday, the Kaiserstädter have the chance to improve their overall record against the club from the right bank of the Rhine. So far, Alemannia has four wins, one game ended in a draw, and Cologne won nine games.
