Müsel on Moustier’s departure and praise for Swajkowski – “He’s got it all”

Torben Müsel gave an honest assessment after the 1-1 draw in Munich, saying that neither team deserved to win. Here’s how the Rot-Weiss Essen midfielder saw the 90 minutes.

Klaus Gjasula was suspended, Luca Bazzoli was loaned to Ulm, and Tom Moustier is about to move to Portugal.

That’s why there was a debut for Rot-Weiss Essen in the 1-1 draw at 1860 Munich at the weekend. Torben Müsel had never played alongside Gianluca Swajkowski in the double six before.

As with the whole team, there was room for improvement here too, although Müsel praised Swajkowski after the game. They were the only two players currently available for the position.

Moustier was already in Portugal, where he is set to sign a contract until 2028 with Portuguese first division club CF Estrela Amadora. According to information from the WAZ, RWE will receive significantly more than the initially reported €300,000. A lot of money for RWE, even if Müsel regrets the loss of his midfield colleague. After the game in Munich, he said: “Tom has performed superbly. Many fans are sad to see him go because he was a fan favorite. It hurts us too, because he brought such energy to the pitch.“

Even before the game in Munich, it was clear that Koschinat was planning without Moustier because he wasn’t in the right frame of mind. For Müsel, the issue was only secondary. ”We treated Tom the same as we always have. Tom is a young player who has developed very positively in recent weeks and months. This step comes at just the right time for him. It wasn’t a big issue for the team; Tom was in the dressing room all week and didn’t hinder us in any way in our daily routine. That was very professional of him. And so was the way we handled it.”

In Munich, however, it was clear that it was difficult to replace Moustier and Gjasula at the same time. Müsel explained after the late equalizer: “It was a hard-fought, tough game. There were a lot of duels in midfield, a lot of simple mistakes. We took the lead somewhat luckily, even though we didn’t really work our way towards the opponent’s goal. Then we had to see the game through to the finish line, but unfortunately we didn’t manage to do that. But considering how the game went, I think 1-1 is a fair result.“

Looking at the double six with Müsel and Swajkowski, the 26-year-old summed up: ”He did very well, he has everything you need in a six. Toughness in tackles and playful elements. Gianluca earned his chance.”
