30 third division games – relegation candidate steps up its offensive

FC Ingolstadt is looking to its neighbors for reinforcements for its offense.

Emilio Kehrer is currently having a difficult season. The right winger missed the start of the current season at Willem II Tilburg in the Dutch second division due to ankle surgery and has not been able to regain his place in the starting lineup since.

Now he is set to gain playing experience at FC Ingolstadt. The 23-year-old, who was born in Ravensburg, will join the club on loan until the end of the season. The FCI then has an option to buy.

“I’m very happy to be back in Germany. The discussions I had beforehand with the club officials, but also with my former teammate Dennis Kaygin, were very positive – he told me a lot of good things about the club and reinforced my decision. That makes me all the more excited to wear the Ingolstadt crest on my chest from now on,” he said.

Kehrer enjoyed his soccer training in the youth teams of SC Freiburg, among others. The right-footed player celebrated the Regionalliga championship with the Breisgau club’s second team in 2021 and played a decisive role in their promotion to the 3. Liga with 13 goal contributions in 26 games, where he then played another 30 games (four goals, three assists) for the sports club and recommended himself for Belgian first division club Cercle Brugge.

Points Table

After a year in the Jupiler Pro League and another season on loan at KMSK Deinze, the attacking player moved to Willem II Tilburg in the Eredivisie in the summer of 2024. There, the former German U20 international played alongside Kaygin, among others, whom he is now following to Upper Bavaria on loan after a total of 35 appearances for Tilburg.

“Emilio can play in various positions in attack, giving us additional options in the offensive area. His strengths include his high pace and quality in one-on-one situations. He also brings first division experience from the Netherlands and Belgium. We see him as a player who can play an important role for us in the long term, not least because of his potential,” said Ingolstadt’s managing director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.
