Draw in Nuremberg – Preußen Münster prevents another defeat

Second division soccer club SC Preußen Münster managed to secure at least a draw against 1. FC Nürnberg on Friday evening.

SC Preußen Münster avoided a third consecutive defeat. Despite falling behind and being outplayed for long periods, Alexander Ende’s team managed a 1-1 (0-0) draw at 1. FC Nürnberg.

The Eagles, once again with Johannes Schenk in goal and Paul Jaeckel and Marvin Schulz replacing Torge Paetow (bench) and Yassine Bouchama (red card suspension), were initially pushed back by the home side.

Mohamed Ali Zoma had the best chance when he rounded Schenk after a through ball from Julian Justvan and shot, but Jannis Heuer saved on the line (6′). The home side continued to look likely to take the lead: Schenk failed to control a back pass but managed to clear in extremis (15th minute), and shortly afterwards Justvan narrowly missed (16th minute).

FCN continued to dominate and had further chances, but the score remained goalless at half-time. Münster only made sporadic appearances up front.

Nuremberg remained the dominant team after the break. After 56 minutes, the long-awaited goal finally came: Mikkel Kirkeskov played the ball to Zoma, who didn’t hesitate and scored the 1-0 lead with a low shot.

It didn’t last long: out of nowhere, Preußen Münster equalized seven minutes later: Jorrit Hendrix initiated the counterattack, played a one-two with Kirkeskov in the penalty area and confidently finished to make it 1-1.

Münster now pushed forward more. Hendrix forced Jan Reichert into a save after another combination with Kirkeskov (75′). It was the last notable chance of the game.

Münster climbs to twelfth place for the time being, but the lead over 17th place is only one point and the competition can catch up over the weekend.
