Second division soccer club 1. FC Kaiserslautern has struck again in the transfer market. Another center back is coming.
1. FC Kaiserslautern announced the signing of Jacob Rasmussen on Friday. The 28-year-old Dane has been signed permanently from RB Salzburg. He is the third new signing and the second new center back of the winter transfer window, following Norman Bassette (forward, on loan from Coventry City) and Atanas Chernev (defender, on loan from CF Estrela Amadora).
“With Jacob, we are gaining a player who can help us develop further with his qualities. These include his heading ability and his intelligence on the pitch. In addition, his international experience gives him a strong mentality and leadership qualities both on and off the pitch. As a left-footed player, he also fits perfectly into our squad planning. We also believe that Jacob, with his career to date, can play an important role in the team and successfully contribute his experience here,” said FCK sporting director Marcel Klos.
Rasmussen was still on the bench on Thursday during RB Salzburg’s Europa League match against Aston Villa. He made 29 appearances for the Austrian club this season, 27 of them from the start. These included the first six group matches in the Europa League.
“1. FC Kaiserslautern is a big club that has developed positively in recent years and has set clear goals for the future. The talks with Marcel Klos and Torsten Lieberknecht convinced me that I want to join FCK on this journey. I hope to be able to help the team with my experience and look forward to a successful time together with the team,” said Rasmussen.
The left-footed player, who made it into the Danish senior national team squad in March 2024, only moved from Bröndby IF to Salzburg in the summer of 2025 for a transfer fee of €1.5 million. Prior to that, Rasmussen was under contract with AC Florence, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Vitesse Arnhem, Erzgebirge Aue, and St. Pauli, among others. In 2014, he joined FC Schalke 04’s youth academy at the age of 17 and spent two years there.
