Schweinfurt’s Disappointing Record, Former Essen Player: “I Can’t Explain It”

1. FC Schweinfurt 05 is teetering on the brink of relegation back to the Regionalliga. No third-division team has ever performed worse at this stage of the season.

Six points after 18 games: Following its latest 2-3 loss to TSV Havelse, 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 is now the worst team the 3. Liga has ever had in its current form.

Schweinfurt had even taken a 1-0 lead through Jakob Tranziska (16th minute). It was clear from the start: Only the winner of this crucial match would still have any hope of avoiding relegation.

Robin Müller (17th, 34th) dashed those hopes in Havelse’s favor, but Joshua Endres equalized again in the 53rd minute. But Semi Belkahia then scored the winning goal in the 77th minute.

“We made the right decisions in the crucial moments of the game. Schweinfurt could have walked off the field as winners. They played a great game. In the end, we deserved to win thanks to our emotion, passion, that certain cool-headedness, and our strength on set pieces. I told the guys that we’ve taken a lot of hits and that moments like this are important too. The ride back won’t be quiet—no one needs to go to sleep just yet. I want this to be a party bus. You should celebrate victories. As far as I’m concerned, they can stop at 14 gas stations,” said Havelse coach Samir Ferchichi on “MagentaSport” on Sunday evening.
Points Table
The mood in Schweinfurt was completely different. “We started the game very well and were leading 1-0 again. Then it’s the same old story every week. Right after that, we concede another goal and then go down 2-1. We actually controlled the entire game, had chances of our own before halftime, but we just didn’t reward ourselves. Then we fell into a hole. I score the 2-2, then the 2-3. I can’t explain it. We’re out there, playing soccer, creating chances, but we’re just so inconsistent,” said Endres.

He can understand the “relegation” chants. “The fans have always stood behind us. You can understand the frustration; you have to accept that sometimes. Still, we have to come out of this stronger. Take it one game at a time, even if it’s hard, and just get the points. No one’s been relegated before the second half of the season. Just believe in it and give it everything we’ve got.” Staying up, however, would truly be nothing short of a miracle.
