Former Unterhaching coach Marc Unterberger has found a new job

Marc Unterberger, formerly the third-division coach of the current Bavarian Regional League club Unterhaching, has found a new job.

Regional League club TSV Buchbach has settled on a successor to Aleksandro Petrovic and found a new coach: Effective immediately, Marc Unterberger will take over the reigning runner-up of the Bavarian division, with whom he has signed a contract through June 2027.

The 37-year-old coach is a Unterhaching veteran and most recently managed the suburban club during the 2024/25 third-division season.

“We are very happy that we finally have clarity here,” says Buchbach’s department head Georg Hanslmaier, relieved that after weeks of back-and-forth, the most important personnel decision is off the table: “We wanted to stay true to our club philosophy and were looking for a coach who fits with us.”

The Red-Whites have had no shortage of offers since Petrovic’s move to second-division side SpVgg Greuther Fürth as an assistant coach was announced, but the requirements for a village club in the 4th division are, of course, quite specific: Technical expertise must go hand in hand with down-to-earthness—you need a keen sense to meet the demands while keeping your ear to the ground.

“I’ve known Buchbach for a long time, of course, but the discussions with the key people—which have been going on for some time now—have been extremely positive; Buchbach is a great club,” says Unterberger, already eager to take on his new role after not having been actively involved in daily training at Unterhaching for about 14 months, though he still had a contract that has now been mutually terminated.

“For many years as a youth coach, Marc was a key driving force in our youth academy and played a major role in developing top talents like Karim Adeyemi and Maurice Krattenmacher. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him once again for that. During his time as head coach, we experienced both highs and lows together until our parting of ways in December 2024. We wish him all the best and every success in his new role in Buchbach,“ explains Haching President Manfred Schwabl.

”We had already reached an agreement with Marc some time ago. And we’re also convinced that he’s really excited about the job, but there were just a few contractual details between the two clubs that needed to be worked out, which took a bit longer than expected,” says sporting director Andreas Bichlmaier, relieved that not only can plans be made for the remainder of the season, but that the groundwork can already be laid for the 2026/27 season: “ “In terms of the type of coach we were looking for, we naturally wanted someone who fits in with Buchbach one hundred percent, though that’s not exactly easy. We can’t afford a full-time coach, but we do have our goals, of course. So this also fits very well with Marc’s life plans.”

Currently, the Red-Whites are in tenth place with 27 points and have a twelve-point lead over the relegation zone. “The points didn’t come out of nowhere; we have to keep this up now. But we also can’t forget that a coaching change always brings new energy,” says Unterberger, hoping for many more successes.
