MSV Duisburg was busy once again on “Deadline Day.” Two new signings were presented, including Dominik Kother, who expands the team’s offensive options.
MSV Duisburg’s winter transfer window was no less interesting than the moves made in the summer. With Aljaz Casar and Lex Tyger Lobinger, two key players were integrated into the promoted team’s lineup. On the final day of the transfer window, a “Dominik double” was secured. With center back Becker and winger Kother, the options are greater than ever.
Becker, who has already been training with the “Zebras” on a trial basis for the past two weeks, has had time to get used to his new teammates and also played the full 90 minutes alongside many of them in the friendly against SpVg Schonnebeck.
The situation is different for Kother. His transfer was only announced on Monday (February 2). The 25-year-old has been at the MSV training camp for two days and also trained with the team for the first time on Wednesday (February 4): “It’s been a nice day or two. I’ve seen a few old acquaintances again, was welcomed warmly, and felt at home from the very first second.”
The attacking player, who can play on both wings, can’t wait to get started against SC Verl this weekend: “ I’m really looking forward to getting to know the stadium, the fans, and just being back on the field and giving it my all.”
I hope so, but I think we should just take it one game at a time. I’m a good one-on-one player, I have a good finish, and I know where the goal is
Dominik Kother
After very successful stints in the 3rd Division, both with SSV Jahn Regensburg and Dynamo Dresden, Kother has made only 12 appearances (one goal) for the eastern club in the 2nd Bundesliga this season—mostly as a substitute. He has different expectations for himself: “I want to help the team with my quality and pick up where I left off with Dresden in the third division.”
For Dynamo, he contributed six goals in 18 matches during their promotion season. In Regensburg, he even scored ten goals in 37 games. The Bruchsal-born forward is a promotion specialist and knows that this goal is also a priority for his new club this season.
Can he provide the decisive spark in the promotion race? “I hope so, but I think we should just take it one game at a time. I’m a good one-on-one player, I have a good finish, and I know where the goal is. However, there are no easy games in the 3rd Division. That’s why we’re well advised to think week by week to see what we end up with at the end of the season.”
