Türkspor Dortmund, a team in the Westfalen Oberliga, is filing for bankruptcy. Following the canceled 2024/25 season, another chaotic campaign lies ahead.
As Oberliga Westfalen representative Türkspor Dortmund announced on Thursday, February 5, the 2025/26 season will not proceed as planned either. On the contrary. The club is filing for bankruptcy and is set to undergo restructuring.
This is reminiscent of the previous season. In 2024/25, Türkspor Dortmund ended the first Regionalliga season in the club’s history after 24 matchdays and withdrew from competition.
“This decision was not an easy one, but it is unavoidable. Financial difficulties, a lack of support, and our sporting situation have made it impossible to continue,” the club stated in March 2025, having played its home games first at the IMS Arena of SSVg Velbert and then at the Ischelandstadion in Hagen.
Now, the Dortmund team wants to continue playing, but faces a nine-point deduction. That would catapult Türkspor from tenth place to 17th, the relegation spot. Instead of 23 points, Türkspor Dortmund would then have only 14 to its name.
“The club Türkspor Dortmund 2000 e.V. is to be restructured. Following the club’s filing for insolvency, the intention is now to initiate its restructuring as part of an insolvency plan proceeding,” the Dortmund club stated.
The Dortmund Local Court has appointed experienced insolvency administrator Markus Birkmann from the law firm BBL as provisional insolvency administrator. According to the club, Birkmann expressed a positive view of the restructuring prospects in an initial discussion: “The goal of this process is to get the club, which fundamentally appears to be financially sound, back on its feet. With combined efforts, we should succeed in this endeavor.”
Suddenly, Rot Weiss Ahlen would then be a contender for Dortmund. The traditional club from the Werse River sits in second-to-last place in the Oberliga Westfalen with just ten points. Behind them, with nine points, is only TuS Ennepetal.
Should Türkspor Dortmund actually be relegated to the Westfalenliga, it would mark the club’s second relegation within a year. A bitter turn of events for the club, which could still manage to avoid relegation even after a potential points deduction.
