Schonnebeck turned a 0:2 against KFC Uerdingen into a 2:2 after an extreme performance improvement. The mood after the game at Schetters Busch was correspondingly good.
Even before the match against KFC Uerdingen, Dirk Tönnies, coach of SpVg Schonnebeck, had spoken of a great highlight for the club when the “most traditional club in the Oberliga” would travel to Schetters Busch.
And from a sporting point of view it was also a real highlight, as the Schwalben were able to snatch a point after trailing 0:2 and were closer to victory than KFC towards the end of the game.
Except for the opening phase, the SpVg coach was accordingly satisfied. “We had planned to play disgustingly and to take away KFC’s desire to play football, but we lacked everything in the first half and didn’t play at all. We could have been much further behind,” analysed the 48-year-old, who was particularly annoyed with the two goals conceded. “The two goals annoyed me immensely. Both goal scorers took the ball unchallenged from the five-metre area. That simply must not happen!”
After the break, the Schonnebeck coach liked his team’s performance much better. “We allowed almost nothing and deservedly scored the equaliser. In the end, even more would have been possible, but we should still enjoy the day. It’s certainly not everyday that SpVg Schonnebeck gets a point against a former Bundesliga team and cup winner. That’s already a great experience for us. “
They’re all just people, too. No one has three legs and just runs away from us. It always depends on the day and the attitude. We didn’t look too bad in the first leg either, so we shouldn’t be afraid of Velbert either.
Kevin Kehrmann
His player and scorer of the tying goal Kevin Kehrmann agreed. “When you play a draw against the renowned KFC Uerdingen, then you should be satisfied,” said the midfielder, who was able to look optimistically at the table on the basis of the performance shown, in which SpVg are now in ninth place and eight points ahead of a relegation place.
“If we play like this, then we shouldn’t really have to worry so much about staying in the relegation zone,” said the 32-year-old. “Of course, you always have to keep an eye on the bottom, but actually the quality in the team is too great for us to worry all the time as a team.”
Next Friday, however, the Swallows face the next tough challenge. The Swallows will have to play the leaders from Velbert. Kehrmann, however, was self-confident with regard to this task. “They are all just people. Nobody has three legs and just runs away from us. It always depends on the day and the attitude. We didn’t look too bad in the first leg either, so we shouldn’t be afraid of Velbert either. “
