“Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has been on a strong run lately, but still…”

Fortuna Düsseldorf II travels to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on Saturday. The F95 reserves aim to put a stop to RWO’s incredible run.

On Saturday, January 24, Fortuna Düsseldorf’s U23 team continues its Regionalliga West campaign: On Matchday 19, Jens Langeneke’s team will visit Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

“Our preparation for the second half of the season went well overall; we got through it without any major injuries. We defied the weather conditions and got creative. For the past week and a half, though, the focus has been on Saturday’s game, and we’re excited to get back out there,” says Langeneke.

Langeneke is well aware that the opponent—who has gone eleven competitive matches without a loss, with their last defeat dating back to September 20, 2025 (1-2 against 1. FC Köln II)—is a major hurdle. He emphasizes: “RWO has been on a strong run lately, but after the winter break, we’re starting from scratch again. We want to pick up where we left off in the first leg. Back then, we had a very good start to the entire season. Now we want to try to carry that momentum into the second half of the season.”

Düsseldorf has bolstered its squad this January 2026 with three new players: Moritz Montag (MSV Duisburg), Chernoh Bah (Kickers Offenbach), and Kaden Amaniampong (VfB Stuttgart II). The trio is expected to help Fortuna’s reserve team play a better second half of the season and ultimately celebrate avoiding relegation.

Langeneke: “Our first half of the season was quite a wild ride. We had an outstanding start with 14 points after seven games. That was followed by a long losing streak, which included some games you probably only experience once in a lifetime. So, of course, in terms of results, we’re not where we want to be right now. On top of that, there’s the development of Elias Egouli and Hamza Anhari, both of whom we promoted to the first-team squad at the start of the season. It was a mixed first half of the season. I’d be happy if the second half were a bit calmer and more balanced. When you’re sitting on 18 points after 18 games, the top priority is to collect points to avoid relegation.”
