After four games without a win in the Regionalliga West, Rot Weiss Ahlen were able to celebrate another success, while Straelen once again failed to score.
The 8th matchday of the Regionalliga West opened on Friday evening with Rot Weiss Ahlen and SV Straelen. It was a real crisis summit, as the team from Straelen had not yet scored a point before the match, while the team from Ahlen arrived with four league games without a win and an exit from the Westfalenpokal in their backpacks. The home side were able to get rid of these problems to some extent: Ahlen won 2-0 (0-0), Straelen could not open their points account even with new coach Bekim Kastrati.
Referee Tobias Severins had sent the teams into the dressing rooms goalless. After the change of ends, the Ahleners were then successful: defender Jannik Borgmann provided the lead in the 51st minute, ten minutes later Hakan Sezer, who had already come into the game midway through the first half for Hüseyin Bulut, made it 2-0 (62nd) and increased Straelen’s worries.
Best start in Straelen’s history
That’s where it should stay. The first win in almost a month for RWA, at the bottom of the table it remains a dismal record, the club’s negative record for a start to the season extended further. Straelen also open the matchday next weekend, for the ninth round of the Regionalliga West they travel to promoted SG Wattenscheid on Friday (16 September, 7pm). Rot Weiss Ahlen take on SV Lippstadt on Sunday (18 September, 2 p.m.)
