Rot-Weiss Essen is hot for Felix Götze. RWE also has a good chance of signing the Augsuburg Bundesliga professional. But: Two second-division clubs are also very interested.
On Friday (26 August), WAZ and RevierSport reported exclusively on Rot-Weiss Essen’s interest in Felix Götze.
A short time later, Sky also reported that Götze, a Bundesliga professional from Augsburg, was on RWE’s radar. But not only with Rot-Weiss Essen. “Sky also mentions second-division clubs Arminia Bielefeld and Eintracht Braunschweig as interested parties. However, like the WAZ and RevierSport, it emphasises that RWE is probably Götz’s favourite at the moment.
According to our information, the situation is even such that the Esseners are said to be in agreement with Götze and his consultant agency. The catch: the purchase option. RWE want to include this in the contract, while Augsburg are said to be unsure whether they really want to loan out the 24-year-old variable defensive player, including an option to buy. The brother of world champion Mario Götze is currently tied to FC Augsburg until 30 June 2024.
In any case, Felix Götze fits the Essen requirement profile perfectly. He can not only play on the six, but also in central defence, where RWE is also looking for reinforcements, and also as a right-back. RWE currently has to do without Meiko Sponsel (meniscus tear) for up to six weeks. A transfer of trial player Andreas Wiegel is also possible. But Götze would be a man for several positions.
A decision is expected at the beginning of the week – in all likelihood in favour of Rot-Weiss Essen.
