But no transfer to Mülheim! Oberliga striker stays in Essen

VfB Speldorf has suffered a setback in its squad planning. The “king transfer” does not come off after all. Calvin Küper will stay in Schonnebeck.

On 30 April 2023, VfB Speldorf presented a new striker for the 2022/2023 season: Calvin Küper signed with the then Bezirksliga club, which has since been promoted to the Landesliga. He was to move to Mülheim from Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck.Forecasting reported.

“I am very happy to return to my home club. For me, it is above all a matter of the heart, as I learned to play football at this club and I am really up for it. Regardless of which league it goes to,” explained the striker with first division experience.

That was once. For the transfer will not come about after all. Küper will stay in Essen-Schonnebeck and continue to score goals in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The 22-year-old tells Forecasting: “I can confirm that I will stay at Schonnebeck.”

Speldorf does not seem to be angry with its only youth player for “backing out”. New coach Bartosz Maslon told RS: “We are not angry with the boy or anything like that. It’s better if something like that happens before the season than during the season. Of course Calvin is a good player and I would like to have him in the squad. But at the end of the day, both sides have to want that. Anything else makes no sense. We wish him continued success at Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck.”

Calvin Küper once returned to Schonnebeck after less than two months out of Wattenscheid

Küper scored 13 goals in 28 appearances in the 2022/2023 Oberliga-Niederrhein season. In total, the former SG Schönebeck and SG Wattenscheid 09 player made 57 Oberliga appearances (25 goals), and he also made one Regionalliga appearance for SG Wattenscheid 09 at the beginning of the season – and returned to Schonnebeck.

Küper had in fact moved to Wattenscheid in the summer of 2022 and at the end of August 2022 he was playing at Schetters Busch again. Somehow he seems unable to leave Schonnebeck.
