Vice-champion Borussia Dortmund may have to do without international Karim Adeyemi and newcomer Felix Nmecha in the first round of the DFB Cup.
Both professionals “have a question mark behind them”, said coach Edin Terzic before the match against regional league team TSV Schott Mainz on Saturday.
Adeyemi has been suffering from muscular problems for some time, while Nmecha twisted his ankle in training. “We’ll have to wait for the diagnosis,” said Terzic, who will be able to call on goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and Nico Schlotterbeck again.
Thomas Meunier, Gio Reyna, Julien Duranville and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, however, are out.
Terzic expects a concentrated performance from his team. “The DFB Cup is the shortest way to a title. We have great desire to bring the DFB Cup back to Dortmund. We have to be there from the start,” said the BVB coach.
