FC Schalke 04 is moving into the future with Christian Rühl-Hamers. The Chief Financial Officer has signed a long-term contract.
FC Schalke 04 fans and members have been waiting for personnel announcements for weeks. Which players are coming? Is a new sports director starting soon? A contract has indeed been signed – but the content has only limited to do with the professional team. Chief Financial Officer Christina Rühl-Hamers is staying with the Königsblauen for the long term. What the members learned in the morning via newsletter became official at 1 pm.
Schalke supervisory board member Hefer: “Financial situation sustainably improved” Supervisory board chairman Axel Hefer enthused: “Together with Peter Knäbel, she had to solve a Herculean task when it came to obtaining the licence for the 2nd Bundesliga in the first half of 2021 despite major turnover and revenue shortfalls. At that time, the foundation was laid for the subsequent promotion.” Hefer added: “Together with her team, she has also succeeded in pushing ahead with the development of long-term concepts to improve the club’s financial situation in the long term, in addition to the solutions needed in the short term. “
Rühl-Hamers has worked for Schalke since 2010
Rühl-Hamers, a trained business graduate, tax consultant and auditor, has worked for Schalke since 2010, when she became director of finance and human resources under long-time finance director Peter Peters. In her active football career, she was an international player with the juniors.
After Peters’ resignation in the summer of 2020, she initially took over his position on an interim basis and was then permanently appointed to the board in October 2020. Her tenure so far included the Corona pandemic, the relegation to the Second Division, the separation from long-time main sponsor Gazprom and the immediate return to the top flight – turbulent days.
Rühl-Hamers has thus been under contract longer than her colleagues on the board. The contracts of Bernd Schröder and Peter Knäbel are valid until 2024.
