DSC Wanne-Eickel are top of the Westfalenliga 2 table after a 5:1 win over Westfalia Herne. Coach Sebastian Westerhoff speaks of a start made to measure.
DSC Wanne-Eickel are unbeaten at the top of the Westfalenliga 2 table after four matchdays, most recently with a 5:1 victory in the traditional duel against SC Westfalia Herne. Coach Sebastian Westerhoff was visibly pleased with his team’s performance: “This is enormously important for us. On the fourth matchday, after an already good start, to win a derby like this gives us even more breathing space for the next few weeks. I told the boys that we want to show who is the sporting number one in the city. We managed to do that.”
After four matchdays, the DSC coach can look back on a successful start: “Last week, we could have won the game against Hordel. But of course it’s still a perfect start. If someone had told me that beforehand, I would definitely have signed it. “
Westerhoff does not want to rest on his laurels, of course. But with the current form of his team, he is confident about the upcoming tasks: “I am not only satisfied with the points, but also with the performance of the team. For me, it’s important that it continues now and we bring in the positive results.” Next weekend, Wanne-Eickel expect Holzwickeder SC, against whom DSC want to defend the top of the table.
Promotion still not the season’s goal
But Wanne-Eickel don’t want to overstate the early stage of the season. “Our objective remains exactly the same. I have said that I want to finish among the top five teams with the squad. And that’s exactly what we’ll do. In the end, we’ll have to see what we can achieve,” explains Westerhoff.
The coach is not surprised that the fans’ expectations are growing after such a successful start to the season: “I don’t necessarily notice what’s happening around me. But I know that many of our supporters have been dreaming of promotion for a long time. But we as a team are in the here and now and know how long such a season is. Ten points after four games is of course a very good start, no question. I think there are a lot of teams who were in a similar position after four matchdays and didn’t end up on top. “
