England hosts in final against Germany or France

The hosts England advance to the final of the European Football Championship with a four-nil victory over Sweden.

Goals were scored by Beth Mead (34th minute), Lucy Bronze (48th), Alessia Russo (68th) and Fran Kirby (76th).

It is the first grand final for the England eleven since 2009.

Especially in the second half, the team from Sweden struggled to keep up.

The final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday at 6pm will see England play either Germany or France.

The second semi-final will take place this Wednesday evening. There was bad news for Germany a day before the match: attacker Klara Bühl tested positive for the coronavirus and cannot compete. “She is currently symptom-free and was immediately isolated. Further tests of the entire team and staff were negative,” the DFB announced.

The Lionesses’ victory ends a 13-year wait to reach the final of a major tournament and England are considered favourites to lift the long-awaited trophy for the first time at Wembley on Sunday.
