Hertha is on a roll and climbs to eighth place. Schalke remains in 16th place despite their success against Osnabrück.
Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC continues to move up in the 2nd Bundesliga. With the 5:1 (2:1) victory against promoted SV Elversberg on Sunday, the Berliners also remained undefeated in their fifth consecutive game and reached their best-ever season position with eighth place in the table. Three goals from Florian Niederlechner (23rd, 61st and 67th minutes), who has now scored five goals in three games, as well as Linus Gechter (12th minute) and Jonjoe Kenny (71st minute) were enough to secure Hertha’s sixth win of the season.
Karlsruher SC and Hansa Rostock shared the points in the battle to avoid relegation, drawing 2-2 (1-2). This means that FC Schalke 04 remain in 16th place despite their 4-0 win over VfL Osnabrück. Igor Matanovic (45th minute) and Budu Siwsiwadse (81st minute) saved the draw for KSC after trailing 0-2.
Paderborn scores late against ten Hannover
In the third Sunday game, SC Paderborn secured a 1-0 (0-0) victory against Hannover 96 thanks to a late goal from Florent Muslija (90’+1), who played from the 20th minute after a sending off from Louis Schaub. This means that the Lower Saxony team remains winless against the East Westphalians in the 2nd division.
FC St. Pauli remains the big favorite in the promotion battle. The league leaders kept their clean sheet even after the 2-2 in the city derby against Hamburger SV and lead the league with 14 games without defeat. In Friday night’s top game, a slapstick own goal from HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before coach Tim Walter’s team managed to pull back two to make it 2-2.
The demands of FC St. Pauli have increased. “The fact that we are annoyed about a draw against HSV is a big deal for FC St. Pauli,” said president Oke Göttlich. Holstein Kiel is now the first pursuer after the 3:2 against Wehen Wiesbaden. HSV fell back to third place.
