Every week, it seems there’s a new leader in the Westfalenliga 2 standings. This week, DJK TuS Hordel is in the lead.
On Matchday 14 of the Westfalenliga 2, most eyes were on the showdown between DJK TuS Hordel and DSC Wanne-Eickel. It wasn’t just a local derby, but also a clash between second place and first—and the challengers from Bochum clearly came out on top in the end.
Hordel defeated DSC 5–0. Justin Sarpong (31′), Robin Schultze (37′), David Schürmann (50′), Ledion Shefketi (84′), and Niklas Böhm (90′) scored for the hosts, who are now back at the top of the table. Wanne-Eickel drops to third place but is still only two points behind first place.
Holzwickeder SC has moved up to second place. The HSC defeated SC Obersprockhövel 3–1 and trails Hordel only due to a worse goal difference.
TuS Erndtebrück, another team from the league’s top five, also secured a victory. They prevailed 2–1 against Oberliga relegation team Concordia Wiemelhausen, despite trailing 0–1 shortly after halftime.
Rounding out the top five was SpVgg Horsthausen, which, however, had to settle for a draw against Vestia Disteln. For a long time, it looked as though Horsthausen would take home the three points after Güngör Kaya’s 3–2 goal. However, Disteln struck back in the 90th minute through Louis Pogrzeba to equalize.
BSV Schüren and Westfalia Herne also played to a 3–3 draw. There, too, the decision to split the points came late in the game. Herne had initially turned a deficit into a 3–1 lead, but in the final quarter-hour, Schüren first narrowed the gap and then equalized. Westfalia has now gone five games without a win.
Meanwhile, three teams at the bottom of the table managed to pick up three points. First, SSV Buer won 4–1 at FC Iserlohn, and second, Wacker Obercastrop prevailed 2–1 over RSV Meinerzhagen.
But the most important victory was likely recorded by SpVg Hagen. They won 4–1 in a battle of the bottom teams against FC Brünninghausen, which now remains in last place in the standings.
