“I don’t like it” – Laura Wontorra reprimands former Schalke player Mustafi live on TV

Former Schalke player Shkodran Mustafi is working as an expert for Magenta TV at Euro 2024. Presenter Laura Wontorra wants more straight talk.

As a professional footballer, Shkodran Mustafi (32) is known for his robust and tough style of play. As a TV pundit, however, he apparently still lacks the necessary bite. At least that’s what his TV colleague Laura Wontorra denounced live on air on Magenta TV on Saturday. The 2014 world champion is on duty as an expert for the streaming service at the European Championships in Germany.

The experienced presenter Wontorra wants Mustafi to be more straightforward. “Don’t be so diplomatic, I don’t like it,” she said with a smile, but in a serious tone of voice, to the defender, who is currently without a club. What had happened? Wontorra had asked Mustafi for his personal fan ranking for Euro 2024. “I can’t say for sure,” replied the Magenta expert. Wontorra was not satisfied with this and admonished her counterpart.

Mustafi tried to justify himself. “We’re here in the studio and don’t get that much of the atmosphere.” In the end, he managed to elicit an assessment: “I would put the Scots in first place, that’s what you want to hear,” he said to Wontorra. “The rest is great too. The atmosphere is really good at this European Championship.”

The 32-year-old Mustafi was in the squad in 2014 when Germany became world champions in Brazil. He then had successful years in club soccer with Valencia FC and Arsenal FC. The defender with North Macedonian roots has played a total of 20 international matches for Germany. In the second half of the 2020/21 season, he played for FC Schalke 04 for six months. His intermezzo in Gelsenkirchen was not crowned with success and he was relegated to Bundesliga 2 with Schalke.
