Rumors about Gregor Kobel have been circulating at Borussia Dortmund for quite some time. He could leave BVB for a bigger club. There is also heated discussion about possible successors.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United: In the past, there has reportedly been repeated interest in Gregor Kobel from England. But with a contract running through the summer of 2028—and no buyout clause—Borussia Dortmund has so far been able to take the rumors surrounding its number one goalkeeper in stride.
Because one thing is clear: should the Swiss national team’s number one leave Strobelallee, clubs from the Premier League or other European leagues would have to dig deep into their pockets for Kobel. According to the website “transfermarkt.de,” the 27-year-old Swiss goalkeeper’s market value is estimated at a hefty 40 million euros.
It’s quite possible that the wealthy English clubs will get serious during one of the upcoming transfer windows and put the money on the table. BVB is already preparing for this scenario.
In the summer of 2025, the Bundesliga club signed Diant Ramaj, a highly promising goalkeeper from FC Copenhagen. The 24-year-old German-Kosovar is currently on loan to 1. FC Heidenheim and is also the starting goalkeeper for BVB’s Bundesliga rival.
But if Kobel were to actually leave BVB in the near future, Ramaj and Alexander Meyer—the current number two—wouldn’t be enough. And that’s where Mateusz Kochalski suddenly comes into play.
The 1.90-meter-tall Pole plays goalkeeper in Azerbaijan. There, he is under contract with Champions League club Qarabag Agdam through 2027. Kochalski is making a splash with strong performances in both the domestic league and the Champions League. The market value of the 25-year-old, who previously played for Stal Mielec, Legia Warsaw, and Radomiak Radom in Poland, is estimated at 1.5 million euros.
According to Forecasting reports, BVB isn’t the only club showing interest in Kochalski. Serie A clubs have also set their sights on the Polish goalkeeper.
When asked about the BVB rumors, Kochalski told the website “sportinfo.az”: “I can’t comment on this news. I’ve only read what’s been written. I don’t have any other information.”
