Five games took place in the 3rd league on Tuesday evening. Here are all the results in the overview.
In the 3rd League, it goes on blow by blow. Already on Tuesday, five games of the ninth matchday were played. It was the starting signal for the English week.
With 1. FC Saarbrücken, SSV Ulm 1846, 1860 München, Viktoria Köln and FC Ingolstadt, five teams had the chance – at least until Wednesday – to climb to a direct promotion spot. This shows how tight and balanced this 3rd division is.
SSV Ulm 1846 made the most of this opportunity: the promoted team narrowly but deservedly defeated TSV 1860 München 1-0 in an intense match and celebrated its fifth win of the season. So far, the reigning regional league champions have been the positive surprise in the still young season.
There was also cause for celebration at Höhenberg. Viktoria Köln also defeated FC Ingolstadt, which has been in good form recently, 1-0, thanks to the early winning goal from offensive player Donny Bogicevic.
1. FC Saarbrücken earned a last-minute draw at home against VfB Lübeck. For a long time, the visitors looked like sure winners thanks to a goal from former RWO captain Jannik Löhden, but FCS showed morale in a shorthanded game and were rewarded in the eighth minute of stoppage time when Amine Naifi converted a corner directly to equalize 1-1. Awesome!
In the bottom of the table, SC Verl was able to celebrate an extremely important three points. Verl won the East Westphalia derby against second division relegated Arminia Bielefeld 3:1.
Arminia coach Michel “Mitch” Kniat’s return to his old stomping grounds thus failed, as did the entire start to the season. Bielefeld is in 18th place with just eight points, while SC Freiburg’s second team is even worse off. On Tuesday, the young Breisgau team also failed to score. The SCF lost 0:2 against SV Sandhausen.
The last four games of the matchday will be played on Wednesday. In focus from the district’s point of view: Rot-Weiss Essen is the guest of SpVgg Unterhaching, a team promoted to the top flight, and would like to make the surprise coup against Dynamo Dresden (3:1) pay off.
Speaking of Dresden, the top-ranked team will face Halleschen FC in a derby at the same time. Otherwise, Jahn Regensburg receives SV Waldhof Mannheim at home and Preußen Münster duels with Erzgebirge Aue.
As a reminder, the clash between Borussia Dortmund II and MSV Duisburg (1-0) was already played last week as part of matchday nine.
