Leonardo Scienza used to play for Schalke’s U23s and most recently had an outstanding season with SSV Ulm in the 3rd division. Now he is moving to the Bundesliga.
Leonardo Scienza failed to make his breakthrough while playing for Schalke 04’s U23s. Now the 25-year-old is really taking off in professional soccer. He celebrated his breakthrough into the 2nd Bundesliga and the third division championship with SSV Ulm 1846 and was the outstanding player in the process. Scienza finished the season as top scorer with twelve goals and 17 assists, and the Brazilian was consequently voted player of the season and is also part of the team of the season.
There were already signs that the attacking player would be hard to keep for Ulm and it is now official. Scienza announced his departure on Instagram on Wednesday evening. At the same time, he announced his intention to move to the Bundesliga. His destination remains open for the time being, according to rumors, the high-class technician will join 1. FC Heidenheim.
Update (11:13 am): Now Heidenheim have confirmed the Scienza transfer. He signed a contract until 2027. “With Léo, we were able to win one of the great discoveries of this year’s third division season for our FCH and are firmly convinced that he has the potential to prove his extraordinary abilities in the Bundesliga as well. He played a key role in the success of his current team and now brings a new element to our attacking play,” said Head of Sport Robert Strauß.
Scienza previously addressed the Ulm fans: “Dear SSV, I can hardly find the words to describe what we have experienced here together this year. We have made history!” he wrote on Instagram. “The city, the entire club and its fans have captured my heart just as quickly as our path as a team has steadily climbed. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this amazing season – my teammates and friends, the coaching team, the entire SSV family around me. Thank you to you fans – you’ve kept us flying higher week after week and had our backs. Thanks to all of you, I got the opportunity to play the best season of my life. “
Scienza had his most successful season to date two years ago in the Schalke U23s. He scored 23 goals in the regional league team, but was still not given a chance with the professionals. And even after his move to 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2nd Bundesliga, things did not go as he had hoped.
But Scienza got off to a flying start in Ulm. He really turned up the heat, especially in the final phase: Scienza was involved in seven goals in the last three match days. Now he writes: “It breaks my heart to tell you about a decision I made together with the club. I never thought I’d be leaving you after just one year, but I’ve been given the chance to play in the Bundesliga in the future. This is an incredible childhood dream come true for me. It’s probably not just a saying that sometimes you have to leave when it’s at its best. “
