Lotte officially promoted, Bövinghausen saved, Rheine must tremble

The 33rd matchday of the Oberliga Westfalen brought the decision in the promotion battle. In the basement of the table, however, it remains exciting until the end.

VfL Sportfreunde Lotte are back in the Regionalliga West! After two years in the Oberliga Westfalen, Sportfreunde celebrated promotion with a 2:1 win at SV Schermbeck one matchday before the end and followed Türkspor Dortmund into the fourth division.

Even before the game, Lotte’s promotion was only theoretically still up for grabs; one point in Schermbeck would have been enough, but the Regionalliga returnees left no doubt with their 2:1 (1:1) win. Jeff Mensah and Burinyuy Nyuydine scored for the Lotters, with Hendrik Löbler making it 1:1 in the meantime.

ASC 09 Dortmund, who are in second place, won their last away game at SG Finnentrop-Bamenohl 4:2 (1:2) and remain in third place – three points ahead of SpVgg Erkenschwick.

In the basement, however, things remain exciting. Eintracht Rheine will have to tremble until the last matchday to avoid relegation after a 1:5 (0:4) defeat against Erkenschwick with three-pointer Nico Berghorst. FC Brünninghausen are three points behind Eintracht with the better goal difference. TuS Bövinghausen, meanwhile, managed to save themselves with a 2:1 win at SpVgg Vreden and had double goalscorer Rondinely Roberto Monteiro to thank.

Goalkeeper scores for Rhynern, Siegen play out a draw

The final matchday will therefore see a long-distance duel between Rheine and Brünninghausen. FCB will host SG Finnentrop-Bamenohl on Sunday (May 26, 3 p.m.), while Eintracht will visit Sportfreunde Siegen at the same time.

TSG Sprockhövel, who have already been relegated, lost 4-1 at Westfalia Rhynern, with Westfalia goalkeeper Alexander Hahnemann (40′) converting a penalty. Victoria Clarholz and Sportfreunde Siegen drew 2-2, while the reserves of second division returnees Preußen Münster won 1-0 at TuS Ennepetal.

Brünninghausen had already lost 2:1 at 1. FC Gievenbeck on Friday, while Türkspor Dortmund celebrated their promotion with a 4:2 home win against SG Wattenscheid on Saturday
