KFC Uerdingen terminated the advertising measures for its main sponsor, who is now defending itself against accusations and is also considering legal action.
On November 23, 2023, Niederrhein-Oberliga club KFC Uerdingen sent an open letter to its fans, informing them that main sponsor “dasbob” had failed to meet its financial obligations.
As a result, advertising measures were discontinued, legal action was taken, the contract was terminated and the search for new sponsors has begun. The outstanding sum is said to be around 250,000 euros.
Both the sum and the fact that it was not made public came as a surprise to “dasbob” boss Frank Spasojevic.
He emphasized to the portal “FuPa”: “Of course we were surprised and disappointed by KFC’s written notice of termination last week. Above all, we are sorry for the club and the fans that this conflict was carried out publicly by KFC and without consultation with us.”
According to the statement, it had been communicated that the main sponsor would pay as soon as a planned capital inflow was received. This should be the case soon, according to Spasojevic.
In view of the reaction of the Uerdingen team, the “dasbob” boss also reserves the right to take legal action, as he says: “We are currently in the process of legally reviewing the legality of this termination. We are not yet in a position to make a concrete statement. However, it is becoming clear that the sum of 250,000 euros reported by KFC in public as well as the deadlines set are false and have no legal basis whatsoever.”
Despite everything, Spasojevic wants to stay connected to KFC, but whether this is still possible after the turmoil of the last few weeks seems questionable. In sporting terms, the turmoil behind the scenes has not harmed the team. Marcus John’s side have won their last six league games.
The seventh win in a row should come on Saturday (December 9, 6 p.m.), when FC Büderich visits Krefeld.
