Football-Regionalligist Alemannia Aachen has a new captain. A newcomer. The team council is also in place at the Kaiserstädtern.
Bastian Müller will lead Alemannia Aachen onto the field as captain in the 2023/2024 season. The club made the announcement on Friday. The 31-year-old newcomer, who only returned to the Kaiserstädtern this summer from Wuppertaler SV, thus received the most votes in the team’s election.
Sasa Strujic, also 31 years old and a returnee (TSV Steinbach), will represent Müller. Marc Brasnic, Nils Winter and Frederic Baum (representing the U23 players) complete the team council of the regional league club.
“Basti has matured into a personality over the past few years. Beyond his experience as a footballer, he also knows as a family father what it means to take on responsibility. His position as a central midfielder also helps him to lead the way on the pitch. We are sure that Basti will be a good captain for Alemannia,” said coach Helge Hohl about the new captain.
Alemannia Aachen: Returnee Müller calls captaincy “affair of the heart”
Müller, who trained at SC Paderborn and SC Verl, landed at Alemannia after playing for FC Bayern München II and Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he made a total of 40 appearances in the Regionalliga West between 2014 and 2016. He then moved on to SV Waldhof Mannheim, SC Verl again, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Wuppertaler SV before returning to Aachen this month.
“It’s a huge responsibility, but an absolute honour and a matter of the heart to lead Alemannia into the season as captain,” said Müller, emphasising, “We’re all looking forward to the season tremendously and can hardly wait for the first home game against Wuppertal,” Müller commented on his new post.
