The transfer window is still open until February 1. Those responsible at VfL Bochum gave an update on their activities.
Despite a good performance, VfL Bochum lost the Revierderby at Borussia Dortmund 1:3 (1:1). After the game, sporting director Patrick Fabian and sporting director Marc Lettau gave an update on the transfer window, which is about to close.
“It was certainly one of the best performances here in Dortmund and should definitely have been rewarded with a point,” said Fabian. Lettau could only agree with that. “We took a bold approach and kept up well.”
That’s enough about the sport at this point. The game itself and controversial refereeing decisions have already been written about elsewhere. However, the transfer phase is not yet over.
The window is still open until February 1. When asked how exciting the last few days will be, Fabian replied: “No more exciting than the crime scene on Sunday evening.” Everyone is allowed to do what they want with it.
At least one will definitely come. Keeper Andreas Luthe just needs to undergo the obligatory checks. “I assume that it will work out and otherwise you’ll be surprised.” Of course, that leaves room for speculation.
After all, Fabian and Lettau had only recently indicated in a conversation with journalists that they wanted to sign another attacking player. “It’s already relatively concrete, we’re in talks and hope to have an agreement soon,” Lettau said.
But that sounded completely different after the Dortmund game. “We won’t fall into pragmatism and do something just to do something. We are still convinced that we have a squad of players who are potentially really good.”
Lettau mentioned Moritz Kwarteng, who returned to the squad against Dortmund after three games without playing. Bochum were actually targeting a player like him, a hybrid striker, this winter.
“We are all convinced that he will play an important and supporting role for us in the future.” Backing him is, of course, worthy of all honors, but it sounds like at least one winter transfer has fallen through behind the scenes.
Lettau ruled out anything other than a permanent signing. “We’re not going to bring in just any player on loan and put them in front of our players at short notice and block them. Nothing would be gained from that.”
On the departures side, only the usual suspects were named. Moritz Römling and Mats Pannewig are still on loan. There will be no further departures
