The next transfer is on the horizon at Schalke 04. A young Portuguese is set to strengthen the second division club’s wing-back line.
FC Schalke 04 has so far signed five players from other clubs for the coming season. They are moving to Gelsenkirchen from rivals in the 2nd Bundesliga and from Switzerland. They are joined by Amin Younes, who was recently without a club. Those responsible at the Royal Blues have also looked around in Portugal – and they have found what they are looking for: Tiago Ferreira is close to a move to S04.
The 22-year-old is under contract with Sporting Lisbon until 2025. At the reigning champions, he plays in the second team, which plays in the Portuguese third division. Pictures circulated on social media this Monday show the winger at Schalke’s club grounds.
The transfer is imminent and verbal agreement has already been reached between Ferreira and Schalke. According to information from this editorial team, negotiations between Sporting and the club are also at an advanced stage. Portuguese media also reported.
Captain and regular player at Sporting B
Ferreira wears the captain’s armband for Sporting’s so-called Team B. The Italian-born player was a regular in the team at the end of the season. In 24 games, he scored three goals and set up four others. He made his first and so far only appearance for Lisbon’s first team in the Europa League group stage (coming on as a substitute in the 2:1 win against Rakow in November).
At Schalke, Ferreira could strengthen the wing positions. He can be deployed variably on both flanks. So far, the major upheaval at the second division club has seen the signings of Adrian Gantenbein (FC Winterthur), Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, Anton Donkor (both Eintracht Braunschweig), Janik Bachmann (Hansa Rostock) and Amin Younes (unassigned) after numerous professionals left Schalke. It is quite possible that Schalke’s sixth new signing will be Tiago Ferreira.
