After relegation, SV Sandhausen has left no stone unturned. The squad restructuring is gigantic. The ambitions are high.
25 players left SV Sandhausen after its relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga. A completely new squad is needed. With Nikolai Rehnen, Timo Königsmann, Dennis Diekmeier, Abu-Bekir Ömer El-Zein, Christian Kinsombi and Franck Evina, only six players have remained.
The rest are additions. There are 13 so far, including two talents from our own U19s. It is clear that more players will follow. Lion Schuster (Rapid Wien), Kaylen Reitmaier (Fortuna Düsseldorf U19), Dorian Cevis (FC Augsburg II) and Daniels Ontuzans (SC Freiburg II) will offer themselves as trial players in the coming days.
Despite the huge upheaval, the fact remains. Sandhausen is a very healthy relegated team that wants to attack right back. This is underlined by transfers such as Rouwen Hennings, Alexander Mühling and Tim Knipping.
But the new coach Danny Galm, who comes from the U19 of FC Bayern, must first form an intact team out of these many additions. At his introduction, he emphasised: “We want to give the team a new face and develop a culture within the dressing room. In the course of this, we have succeeded in signing players with strong characters. It should be a good mix of experienced players and young, wild players. To achieve the goal, we have to work hard from the start. On the pitch we want to be unpleasant, that is the basis on which we want to ignite a new euphoria.”
And sporting director Matthias Imhof has made the goal crystal clear: “As a team relegated from the 2nd Division, the goal of direct promotion is clearly defined. We are putting together our squad accordingly.”
So there will probably be one or two other big names to come…
