Preußen Münster draw, BVB II score coup, SVS again ahead of RWE

The 22nd matchday in the 3rd division is complete. Borussia Dortmund’s U23 defeated a promotion candidate, Preußen Münster drew 1-1 in Ingolstadt.

Preußen Münster also remained undefeated in the second game of the year. Three days after their derby victory against Arminia Bielefeld, the Eagles earned a point at FC Ingolstadt. The game on Wednesday evening ended 1:1, with both goals coming in the opening stages.

Joel Grodowski gave Ingolstadt the lead in the 4th minute, but Pascal Testroet equalized twelve minutes into the game. Münster now occupies twelfth place in the table. The FCI has temporarily lost sight of the relegation spot and is six points behind in sixth place.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team continued their unbeaten streak. And that against SSV Jahn Regensburg, who would have returned to the top of the table with a point. But BVB won 1-0, with Ole Pohlmann scoring the golden goal in the second half (67′). Thanks to the coup, Dortmund remain unbeaten for the fifth time in a row. They climb to eighth place, while Regensburg are level on points with leaders Dynamo Dresden in second place.

SSV Ulm 1846, currently in the promotion play-off spot, extended its lead over the chasing pack, SV Sandhausen and Rot-Weiss Essen, to three points again. The promoted side won 2-0 at Arminia Bielefeld. Tom Gaal (10th minute) and Moritz Hannemann (90’+4) ensured that Ulm started the new year with maximum points.

In Bielefeld, on the other hand, there is likely to be a sense of crisis after the home defeat. It was already the third defeat in a row, which means that Arminia are only four points above the relegation places.

SV Sandhausen’s 1-0 win over Erzgebirge Aue saw them replace Rot-Weiss Essen in fourth place, which RWE had taken over temporarily after their 3-1 win over Viktoria Cologne on Tuesday. Alexander Mühling scored the winning goal from the penalty spot (31′).

The U23 team of SC Freiburg continue to drift towards relegation. The bottom-placed team in the table are now 14 points from safety. On Wednesday, the SFC lost 1-0 at SpVgg Unterhaching. Mathias Fetsch scored for the newly promoted team with a header in the 16th minute.
