Fc Schalke 04 II led 1-0 against Preußen Münster before the game was abandoned after 26 minutes. Now the game is being rescheduled.
That’s bitter for FC Schalke 04 II, but that’s what the match regulations say: namely, the Schalkers will lose their 1-0 lead against Preußen Münster and will have to restart the match from the first minute and the score 0-0.
That is what the regulations of the WDFV (West German Football Association) say. Paragraph 36 of the Laws of the Game states:
§ 36 Stoppage of Play
(1) The referee may abandon a match at any time if he considers it unreasonable to continue the match for important reasons. However, the referee shall not intervene to abandon a match until he has exhausted all means of continuing the match.
(2) The referee may abandon a match for the following reasons:
1. heavy darkness,
2. unplayable pitch,
3. assault by a player on the referee or an assistant referee,
4. impossibility of conducting an orderly match,
5. general unruliness of the players,
6. failure by a player to comply with a time or duration caution,
7. threatening behaviour by spectators and inadequate crowd control,
8. demand by a team
9. falling short of the minimum number of players required under Law 3.
(3) A team shall not be entitled to abandon a match.
(4) If the match is abandoned for reasons beyond the control of both teams, the match shall be restarted.
And the fourth paragraph of Section 36 of the WDFV Match Regulations is relevant to the abandoned match between Schalke II and Preußen Münster. This was also confirmed by Patrick Zielezny, the match director of the Regionalliga West, when asked by WAZ.
