This former Schalke player is the top favorite for the sports director position

A sigh of relief at Alemannia Aachen: After three straight losses and the suspension of Benedetto Muzzicato, the Kaiserstädter won in Wiesbaden.

Alemannia Aachen is restructuring its sports operations during the 2025/2026 season. The club is looking for a new head coach and sporting director. Benedetto Muzzicato and Erdal Celik were relieved of their duties.

In their first game following the duo’s departure, Alemannia won 2–1 at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Just how unpredictable the 3. Liga is was further demonstrated by the next dismissal: SVWW parted ways with coach Nils Döring.

Meanwhile, Aachen’s interim coach, Ilyas Trenz, was naturally overjoyed. The assistant coach to the dismissed Muzzicato said: “I saw my team play a very good first half—tactically, it was top-notch. What Wiesbaden does is very difficult to defend against. Because they always pull their defensive midfielders forward, it creates space for their forwards. But the guys handled this complicated situation well.”

Trenz hadn’t forgotten his former boss either and praised Muzzicato: “One last thing on my mind: I dedicate this victory to Benedetto Muzzicato, who gave everything for the team for weeks on end. I also dedicate this victory to Noah, our assistant coach, and especially to Erdal Celik, who gave his all for the club for two and a half years. I hope that with this victory, we’ve found a fitting conclusion for everyone involved who is no longer with us, and I hope they, too, are proud of us.”

It remains to be seen how the personnel situation at Tivoli will unfold. Several names are being floated for the head coaching position, including that of former RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski. However, Aachen still seems to be undecided on the sports director position.

Alemannia Aachen: Will Sergio Pinto return to Tivoli?

As Forecasting has learned, a strong lead points to Sergio Pinto. The former Alemannia Aachen pro still lives in the city and is a close confidant of managing director Rachid Azzouzi. The 45-year-old Pinto previously worked with Azzouzi at Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth.

Pinto was a successful pro who played for Hannover 96 (193 games), Schalke 04 II (102), Alemannia Aachen (101), Schalke 04 (30), UD Levante (23), Fortuna Düsseldorf (22), and Alemannia Aachen (1).

Pinto was part of Alemannia’s successful Bundesliga team in the 2006–2007 season, which featured players such as Vedad Ibisevic, Marius Ebbers, Alexander Klitzpera, Sascha Rösler, Cristian Fiel, and many other Alemannia icons. Perhaps Pinto will now return to Tivoli in an administrative role.

To date, he has only worked as a squad planner for Greuther Fürth. He also once served as head scout there—just as he did at Eintracht Frankfurt and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
