Thanks to a late goal from Robert Leipertz, SC Paderborn have ended their negative streak in the 2nd Bundesliga.
The East Westphalians won happily 1-0 (0-0) at relegation-threatened Karlsruher SC on Friday and moved up to fourth place with 29 points for the time being. Leipertz (90.+2) scored with a shot into the far corner to give the Paderborn side victory, ending a run of four defeats in a row and allowing them to look forward with confidence to Tuesday’s DFB Cup quarter-final against Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.
Karlsruhe, on the other hand, were unable to halt their negative streak in front of 17,151 spectators and have now waited seven games for a win. Before the weekend’s games, the Baden team is only one point ahead of the relegation zone.
KSC started the game well, but Fabian Schleusener missed the goal on the left with his best chance (15th). When Paderborn then took command, Robert Leipertz failed to clear KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (21). The strong keeper then also saved from the quick Sirlord Conteh (40.).
Karlsruhe were the better team after the break, but were not compelling enough on the offensive. Instead, Leipertz again missed the lead for Paderborn (66th), before he scored in injury time.
