Schalke can rely on Mandy Islacker in the women’s league, MSV’s opponent did not show up, and SGS Essen continues to struggle to get into the season.
While SGS Essen continues to lag behind in the Women’s Bundesliga, things are running smoothly for the women of FC Schalke and MSV Duisburg in the lower leagues.
SGS is still waiting for its first win in the Women’s Bundesliga after the sixth match day. They suffered a 2-1 defeat at RB Leipzig, and even the suspension of team manager Robert Augustin failed to turn the tide. “The early goal was, of course, exactly what we wanted to avoid,” said coach Jessica Wissmann. “Both goals were once again completely unnecessary.” Nevertheless, she saw improvements in the Essen team: “Even after the setbacks, we played much better than in recent weeks. I am absolutely proud of the girls for how they kept going after a turbulent week, how they played, especially in the second half, putting pressure on and always believing in themselves. I have the utmost respect for that.”
The FC Schalke coach also has respect for his players in the Women’s Westfalenliga. Stefan Colmsee’s team won their eighth game in a row with a confident 5-0 (4-0) victory over FC Iserlohn.
Schalke striker Mandy Islacker was once again hungry for goals, scoring the first three, her 18th, 19th, and 20th of the season. Jolina Opladen increased the lead to 4-0 and 5-0. From the 47th minute onwards, Schalke took their foot off the gas and saw out the 5-0 win. It was their eighth win in eight games, giving them a six-point lead over their pursuers. Similar to the Schalke women, the MSV Duisburg women are also performing well in the Lower Rhine League. This time, however, they didn’t have to do anything to emerge victorious from the top match against SV Rosellen.
Due to several cases of illness, their opponents were unable to play, so the match will probably be scored 2-0 with three points for MSV Duisburg. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
