VfL Bochum remains undefeated in its third U19 competitive match. The team secured a cup victory against Dynamo Dresden ahead of next week’s big match.
VfL Bochum’s U19 team has advanced to the second round of the DFB Cup. Bochum defeated SG Dynamo Dresden 4-0 on home turf at the youth academy on Hiltroper Straße.
For VfL, it was the third competitive match of the current season. To kick off the DFB Youth League, David Siebers’ team won 5-0 in the derby against Rot-Weiss Essen, before securing their first home victory against Schott Mainz last week (3-0).
In the cup match against the Saxons, the young Bochum players started the game at a brisk pace. A standout performer time and again: Alessandro Crimaldi, who also scored the opening goal (5th minute). “We did exactly what we set out to do: put the pedal to the metal right from the start. And we got off to another good start, taking an early lead thanks to a great solo dribble by Alessandro Crimaldi, who held his own in two one-on-one situations and then finished brilliantly,” described VfL coach David Siebers.
For a long time, Dresden couldn’t even get out of their own half. Siebers nevertheless identified a ten-minute lapse in concentration by his team: “After that, I saw a team that kept up that pace until around the 30th minute—unfortunately without increasing the lead. My feeling was that it would have been necessary to settle the game down a bit. And then we had a brief lapse in concentration from the 30th to the 40th minute, during which we didn’t lose control of the game, but you could tell that Dresden could have created more.”
Similar to the match against Mainz, VfL led 2-0 at halftime and faced a numerical advantage at the restart. “Fortunately, we added the second goal right during that phase. With the red card, things supposedly get easier. But we already know exactly how that goes from last week, when we led 2-0 at halftime and thought it would be even easier against ten men. That’s why it was important for us again today, even with an extra man, to add another goal. It took us a lot of attempts, but we didn’t just score one more—we scored a second,” Siebers explained.
This coming Sunday (August 24, 11 a.m.), Bochum’s U19s continue their league campaign. Borussia Dortmund awaits with the same number of points and goal difference (six points, 8-0 goal difference).
