FC Schalke 04 has also been fined again by the DFB. It concerns the match on the 33rd matchday against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The DFB Sports Tribunal is also taking the Revier clubs to task in its review of the past season. First, Borussia Dortmund was fined a whopping 88,000 euros for rioting in the Revier derby, followed by a verdict of 5,450 euros against MSV Duisburg.
And FC Schalke 04 did not get off scot-free either. S04 has now been fined 18,000 euros for two offences in the home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on 20 May 2023.
In the match of the 33rd matchday, in which Sebastian Polter saved a point with a late 2:2 equaliser, the Schalke supporters first lit 17 Bengal fires. “In addition, in the 44th minute, a lighter was thrown from the Schalke spectator area in the direction of the visiting players or the referee,” the DFB explained in a press release.
Only Dortmund had to pay more
Of the 18,000 euros imposed, the Knappen can invest 6,000 euros in “safety-related or violence-preventing measures”. For the Schalke team, this is already the sixth ruling of the 2022/23 season, with a total fine of €177,100.
In the region, only Borussia Dortmund had to pay more for riots and pyrotechnics. 184,000 euros in fines accumulated over the course of the season. In addition, there is a further €19,685 fine for second-team matches. At VfL Bochum, meanwhile, it’s 122,000 euros.
